Hey DAP people,
We have an excel file on our web site that are the blueprints for the simple log arch that most of our practitioners use. You will have to search in HHFF documents and you may download it.
There are some details that are now modified, but this is the basic arch I found in Andover, Ohio many years ago when I spent some time with one of my mentors, Charlie Fisher.
There are no moving parts and it works well. We have a few that have been around for over twenty years. The slot bar is about the only thing that wears out. We (HHFF) need to post more information about actually using this device, along with photos, but there is always more work to do….on top of actually doing the work in the woods.
Maybe we could all the folks on this page the Actual Draft Animal Power People, so the acronym would be ADAPP which is what we are doing…
You may read all sorts of other information while on our site. I am going to try to attach this file to this post. Oops, I tried, but it is an invalid file type, so I will scan them and try again later….stay tuned or go to the web site and download it yourself.

Thanks

Thanks

I finaly have all my steel and axles to make your cart, thanks for the detailed plans! I was wondering if you have ever run this arch with a single horse ? I have a horse out for probably 6 months with a really bad absess. I have looked at the shaft set up on the pioneer cart , would something like that work ? if you have any photos you could post that would be helpful. Also i was wondering if you use your arch just for logging or can/do you hook up other stuff to it ?
ThanksFebruary 1, 2011 at 3:54 pm #44691Scott GParticipantPhil,
Here is one photo from the gallery that shows the cart set up with shafts.http://www.draftanimalpower.com/photoplog/images/6/medium/1_Single_arch_uphill.jpg
February 1, 2011 at 4:46 pm #44698blue80Participanthey scott did you see the arch for sale on craiglist, in Silverthorne. Check craiglist, high rockies I think….
Don’t know what a used one is “worth” but haven’t seen many for sale in the area….February 1, 2011 at 6:08 pm #44692Scott GParticipantYeah Kevin I did, thx for the heads up. I e-mailed the guy but haven’t heard back from him. The arch looks like one of David Miller’s/Forest Mfg rigs. If it is, they sell for around $1,200 new. If the guy is willing to come down on his price substantially I might snag it.
That mechanical/hydraulic jib looks like a pretty neat piece of kit as well. Might be a little light-duty for the woods though…
Thanks again for the heads up!
We’re trying hard to make it up to -10F for the high temp today. Gets much warmer and I’m goin’ to have to let the fire in the stove dieout…
How warm is it in NE WY?;)
March 24, 2011 at 3:38 pm #44693Scott GParticipantThanks for the tip, Kevin! I purchased it. It is one of Jim Brown’s arches that is basically new; barely even a season of use. Was able to buy it for about half of what it is currently listed for. Will be getting a shaft adapter/shafts so that I can run it with a single as well. This cart is definitely worth the coin…
March 25, 2011 at 2:59 am #44699blue80ParticipantNice, glad you got just what I wanted:D
Now get out there and wear some of that paint off. Something that shiny is liable to get stolen;)Need skiis on it to use it out there now? 8 degrees in NDakota today and I forgot my hat…..Now I know how the calves feel.
