Hello from Wyo

Hello everyone. I was born and raised on the ranch I’m now running. It’s been in my family(parts of it) since the 1860’s. We’ve always had a team or two around for feeding cattle and other chores. In the last 6 or 7 years I’ve been using them more and more in the hayfields and at other chores such as dragging meadows, spreading manure, hauling sod from ditchbanks, etc. I’ve been doing a little logging with a few mules. More of that is expected with all the beetle kill and mistletoe that’s wiping out our timber stands.
As a kid, we put our hay up loose, and used a few teams in that process. The first time I drove a team was on a 12′ dumprake raking scatters when I was 8. Since then I’ve been hooked on them, no pun intended.
I hope on this forum we can throw out some new ideas for helping eachother keep these draft animals working.
For me personally it’s a matter of shaving some overhead from my operation. It also is a personal preference for me as I dislike tractor work. But I do think draft animals are a viable power source and I’m sure that using them along with some of my tractors is worth while.
I love to hear from people of their experiences using animal power in different ways than I do.
