this is the second winter for me in the woods with my horse.. he’s a 20 something belg/perch cross with a lot of experience (and owners). not overly ambisious but full of patients, control and stamina.. i truly enjoy working with him.. i i’m also 1/2 owner in a portable saw mill which we try and use on as many jobs as possible. my most recent was a small thinning of a sugar bush and pine stand.. no real hi quality logs to move out but we weren’t selling them anyways. all of the saw logs(1000bft r.oak and 6000 pine) were milled on sight for the land owner. it was a great job.. the land owner agreed to pay my asking hourly fee after a trial period of three days. i’m still looking at the numbers to see what she paid per mbf for both moving and milling but what’s more important is we were both happy with how the job went and how the forest looked when we were done.. thanks for getting all of this together it’s great info..
sincerly, jason
