I was thinking that it might be neat to setup some tutorials on fixing equipment on the forum. I’ve seen lots of forums that do this (non-draft power). A couple of pages, a few key photos. Might be a powerful learning tool. If we assemble enough of these, we could keep an articles section. Or print the stuff out and have little handbooks. Who knows?
I’m certainly volunteering the labor, know how and one really nice digital camera.
If anyone was interested and there were a specific piece of equipment that needed to be fixed we could setup a time to meet. Do the work over a weekend. Disassembly, procedure, reassembly, maybe even how to paint.
Who knows where it could go? I think it could really empower some people to get some work done. Also open some doors on equipment.
I figure if it inspires even a couple of people to save some money by buying older beat up equipment or give them the confidence to tackle a repair that they wouldn’t have tried on their own, it’s worth at least the gas money and time to me.
What does every one think?

I have a handful of old equipment I was able to get for a song, but now have to figure out how to repair and put to work. I hope it does get off the ground down your way. Great suggestion and a real demonstration of leadership on your part.

I’m sure the total cost ($40 round trip on a bus ticket) of my time and maybe some other people’s will be a whole lot less than paying somebody who needs to make a living off of this stuff.
Believe me, I do this kinda stuff for fun. You oughta see my uncle Steve and I. Or the rest of my family. I always seem to get roped into fixing something for somebody.

First, though, I’m going to see what local expertise I can find, given that this is going to be an ongoing issue as we expand our fleet. I’m hoping that there will be a restoration or repair clinic at the NEAPFD this year.
How is your Face Book project going?
