My wife and I have settled on a small farm between Montreal and Ottawa and are gradually developing a rotational grazing program with beef, sheep/goats and horses, along with an expanding garden. We have a very experienced team of old style Belgians (both logging and farm work), a Quarter Horse mare (broke to ride and drive) and three two year old QH fillies all being broke to drive and ride. Both of us grew up in farm environments and around horses, but my driving experience is slim. Our collection of antique, direct action farm equipment is slowly expanding, forcing me to develop the skills to restore it. Our goals include being able to plow/cultivate, hay (loose) and log for firewood and some saw logs within a year, put all of the horse to work, and bale hay by horse with in three years. We are subscribers to Small Farmers’ Journal, where we found out about NEAPFD, and hence this site, which we’ve thoroughly enjoyed ever since. We are really looking forward to attending this year’s event, and possibly meeting some of the great people we’ve seen post on this site.
