This past weekend at a local plowing event one of our friends unveiled his latest invention. A small forecart with a mounted 10 inch plow from an old walk behind tractor and disc coulter. Perfectly adjusted turning a great little furrow. The power was provided by 3 miniature draft horses Oreo, Mike and Pete. His mini’s are exceptional but are still mini’s and can serve a purpose. Usually Mike and Pete run a taxi service for the kids whenever we have an event and are the lead team for their 6 up mini hitch at the fair.

We do have alot of friends with Haflingers but they pull full size equipment with extra horses. The folks that own the mini’s have three different sizes of horses and three pastures. Mini’s, Haflingers and Percherons. They also exhibit hitches in all three sizes which is sort of hectic when they are back to back so some of us go to the fairs and help out. 6 up Percherons, 6up Haflingers, 6 up Mini’s etc, The crew has to have them hitched and ready so he can jump off one wagon and onto another.

There were 12 other teams of draft horses working at the same time but if mini’s are your forte then it wasn’t a big show. His hometown show is on labor day at Fonda N.Y. That is where he drives six Percherons, six Haflingers and six mini’s consecutively. Mike and Pete are the best mini’s around. They are the lead for the six hitch and they keep everything tight throwing dirt on the other four with their feet if they don’t keep up. They are regulars at our events shuttling kids around and even haul corn at our silo fill.
