What to do about horses that eat grass when standing? My wood pile is in a field with nice green clover which my horses like to eat while I am loading up. A bad habit I think. Any suggetions how to control/break it?

I like to use a loose check rein, from bit to one hames and back to the bit. Nothing fancy and loose enough to allow for full head and neck movement needed for work. Tight enough to prevent eating. Sometimes one will get the bright idea to pull the whole harness forward but tightening the check for a little while usually stops that. Donn

I have a gelding that likes to eat wile he stands and it is a little aggravating when your trying to hook a log or what ever. I did start to have to use a check rein on him so know he is always looking for leaves to munch on up high. Taylor Johnson

yes a side check would work but it takes a day or two for them to get used to them, and they will test them hard at lest once, just leave them on and they will stop trying them
