Hi everyone. I’m in southern Pennsylvania and have been interested in draft animals for years (decades)… but i’m a slow learner i guess, and still feel like i hardly know enough to ask questions.
I have two “chunks” = draft cross horses, both mares, a mother and daughter acutally, that i use single to do small jobs. they also both ride and drive (carriage) but they don’t get much work. also have an ancient senior -citizen ox (19 years old this november), a middle aged ox (8 years) and have just started a new steer who was born in March 08.
i have a “day job” and can only do the draft animal stuff on weekends but it’s very important to me. l looking forward to learning lots on this forum.September 24, 2008 at 2:42 am #47458TaylorJohnsonParticipantWEllcome to the board, I hope to get to PA some day to hunt coon with a friend out there. It sound like good country and I hear they have some of the best hard wood in the country. Taylor Johnson

Hey, welcome, but man, 19 is not an old horse, let alone ‘ancient’, lol. I have a 27 yo still in work and he wouldn’t have it any other way. Jennifer.

no, i know 19 is not old for a horse. one of my mares is at least 19 and she is still very ready to go all day:). The ancient senior citizen at 19 is my ox, Rex. if i knew how to attach a picture of him, i would and you would see what i mean!
