Hi all,
I realized I have been posting without having introduced myself. My husband Jonathan and I are the ones who set up the Small Farmer’s Journal booth at NEAPFD and Common Ground Country Fair. We have also set up at NOFA and at NH Sheep and Wool Fest in the past. If folks know of other events within reasonable striking distance of New Hampshire, we’d be glad to talk to the Millers about bringing books and magazines there.
We have a small beginning farm in Canaan NH and will soon have our first horse, a Suffolk mare.
I apprenticed on Horsepower Farm in Blue Hill, Maine, from the fall of 1993 to the fall of 1994. I owe Paul and Mollie Birdsall tremendously for all they taught me, and now owe Jay and Janet Bailey and Bekah Murchison and Mark Cowdrey for helping me get started with my first horse of my own. I love this economy of barter, generosity and mutual obligation that grows up around the small farm community. There is money exchanged too but the more important part by far is the encouragement and trust of one’s elders and betters, under which I feel an obligation and responsibility not only to do my very best but to pass on the help and encouragement whenever I can.
