Hi All:
Newbie here, both to the forum and to driving oxen. We are breeding Miniature Jerseys and would like to have a possible career alternative for our bull/steer calves. Is there anyone in VA who drives oxen who would be willing to mentor us? Any advice for someone who is starting from ground zero? Thanks in advance.

I am not a cattle person, but have learned an amazing amount just ‘listening in’ on some of the Oxen threads. There are some very talented teamsters here.
Do you have a team? Jennifer.

Go to the Virginia Draft Horse and Mule Association web page and look on the members list for a fellow named Bill Spiden. He has a pair of oxen and works them in public settings frequently. I am not sure of if he mentors folks formally or not, but his animals have always been well behaved over the years he has had them in public.
Let me know if you find him through that link. Good luck with it.
