I was talking to ADK Logger about locating several animals for sale during a search for a good animal.

It occurred to me that we could have a list of publications, or other sources where people look to find animals advertised for sale.

In Vermont I look in The Green Mountain Trading Post a bi-weekly classified ad paper.

Vermont Ag-review Vt agency of ag bi-weekly newsletter.

Green Mountain Draft Horse Association quarterly newsletter.

And in New Hampshire The Market Bulletin.

I don’t have time right now to get links, but I think these all have websites.

In Eastern and Central New York these two publications come to mind first, they also have free online classifieds, so you need not subscribe, if you like to follow auctions I would recommend subscribing to Country Folks.

    Want ad Digest http://www.wantaddigest.com/view/wadhome.asp

    Country Folks http://www.leepub.com/classified%20files/samplewebpage/

Country Folks is also a great place to shop for farms and land if you are looking for a some ground.

Thanks Carl, this is an excellent post especially for somebody like myself looking to get into the draft horse world, and to find those networks which are beneficial and rewarding.

Definately let me know if you have any other ideas that will help in my search.

Just for information the NH Market Bulletin is available on line but you must subscribe to it through the NH Dept. of Ag, Markets & Food. $22.00/year comes out weekly on Wednesdays. All kinds of animals & equipment for sale all must be ag related. Go to http://www.agriculture.nh.gov to sign up.

If you want donkeys, mules & the zebra hybrids, ADMS will send you a list of breeders for a buck per list. Request a list by type (spotted, mini, mule, etc.) or by state or just get the entire country. Their website has individual (private party) listings: http://www.lovelongears.com
I once saw a pair of matched zorses being sold there >>> kinda looked like striped Fjords. 😎

In the Mid Atlantic region (New York , and south through Virginia, actually) there is the weekly paper Lancaster Farming: horses, cattle, and other livestock listed for sale, also livestock auctions and much much more. (as they say.) http://lancasterfarming.com/

    Good Afternoon Everyone, 🙂

Beth mentioned Drafts For Sale. I view that site often. There are two more I frequently look at.

    http://draftsforsale.com

    http://ruralheritage.com

    http://drafthorseclassified.com

You can also contact breed registries. Most have their own web~sites. Often there are classified ads listing what is for sale.

As for publications, I get “The Draft Horse Journal.“ I believe they also have a web~site. I never bothered to check. 🙂

    Enjoy the day everyone.

    Hugs,
    Linda 🙂
