I am looking for two 4′ steel wheels to mount on a dump cart for my ox team. Does anyone have a contact in Amish country or anywhere else that sells 4′ steel wheels with an axle? I tried Acme carriage here in VT and they are charging $1,072.00 for the two wheels.
    Thanks

    Hi Michael

I keep an eye on ebay because sometimes they come up for sale there. I recently bought a nice pair of heavy duty 36″ wooden wheels with steel tires there for $200.
I do know someone who has a pair of 4′ army type old but unused wooden wheels for sale. He was asking $700 for the pair. Nice wheels and great for a cart. Send me a PM if you want his name and number.

Check out E-Z Trail / Hogback Produce {I listed them in the equipment contact posting}… I think they carry all kinds of wheels.

here is an idea for the DIY’s in the crowd. I wanted steel wheels from my local Amish welder and he did a great job. I think two 32″ by 8″ were 250$. I have actually had him make me two sets, one for a mower and one for a spreader. But what he did was order blanks. The blanks consist of the steel rim in the desired size. He builds out from a hub, or an old car rim or what ever. He must use a jig and pieces of flat steel make all the webs. He adds three inch pieces of rebar or flat steel for lugs. Paint. I am sure with a little investigating we could figure out were to order these blanks in PA.
