My small wayward steer has been doing well with his new yoke and britchen for 2 weeks now. But I don’t really know if its fitting him correctly. Its difficult for me to find pictures or videos of single oxen working (especially single steers training) to compare it to. I don’t want to be unknowingly making him uncomfortable, so I wonder if anyone here can comment on my yoke. I put some pictures here: http://stweb.ccv.edu/CIS-2410-VO01-V09SP/imp04290/lucky.html.
If you have advice about my hookup or links to pictures or videos especially of the animal in motion I would really love it (and I bet other newbies with a single would too!)
Cheers

P.S. That bow pin always goes in from the back side.:(May 4, 2009 at 1:34 am #52143Tim HarriganParticipantIt is a little hard to tell because the yoke is twisted in the picture. But I think it might be one inch too big. Is the bow hitting the point of his shoulder? Does he act like something is bothering him? It is a little hard to tell from your pictures.

He doesn’t act like it’s bothering him to my knowledge (which is minimal) but I did suspect that it might be too big. I thought it might be because the yoke leans like that when we make a turn.
Thanks for the tip about bow pin placement, Howie.
I will look and see where the yoke hits his shoulder.
Thanks!

I have some photos, but the address I used was too sketchy to get the disk to you. Would you e-mail me the right one? CircleoftheSunNH@aol.com.
All best to you,
