I am trying to mow with a JD no 4 in Athol, Ma. but I keep binding up so bad that I have split and cracked two ash poles. The first time last week the register was a little off, but now it is good. It definitely mowed better but still bound up so bad. The ground was still pretty wet and I think that is a problem, but I was wondering if you guys could give any tips since this is the first time I have really tried to mow with horses. Thanks

Dull knife, ledgers, or gaurds that are bent and so worn that they plug, esp in fine grass. The knife points needs to run on the ledgers like sharp scissors working together. Clogs on the inner shoe side can be from a poorly ajusted grass board and other things. outer shoe clogs can be solved with a two headed sickle section at the outer most position on the knife.
I rebuilt my cutter bars with swather guards and ajustable hold downs. Also put topless guards near the inner shoe. Had very little clogging. Contact Midway repair, in Dalton Ohio for fast service/parts.
