Been enjoying the Board for awhile now and thought I should say Hi.
I am new to draft horses. But do have some Welsh Ponies that I am learning to work. The first time I pulled brush with them last fall I got gooesbumps.
The feel of the lines and the sound of the harness and being in tune with my team of willing helpers really struck a cord with me.
I currently live in Kentucky, but was born in Vermont.
One of the many reasons I like the Board is the New England flavor.
My Grandfather and his father had a saw mill in GayesvilleVermont.
Must have been right outside of Bethel in the 1950s.
I heard many stories of them using horses to skid logs down off the mountian.
And tagged along to the various horses pullings around Vermont as a kid.
Just wished I had paid more attention.
planning on attending the Southern Draft Animal Days next month.
Hope to see some of y’all thereAugust 5, 2009 at 2:37 pm #53519Lane LinnenkohlParticipantWelcome. Where in KY are you? We’re in south-central KY, Monroe Co, near Summer Shade and Tompkinsville.

I’m having trouble remembering the name of your family, but I used to get lumber and slabs from that mill, with my father, and some of the farmers I worked with. I still live in Bethel, and bought my first horse from Walt Bryan. You may remember him, and Maurice Thompson, and Frank Lambert.
Glad to have you on board, Carl

The Weaver’s from Liberty will be there with their animal powered treadmill, demonstrating irrigation systems, washing machines, generators, ice cream making….
Of course the famous Kentuckian Wendell Berry and his son Den and grandson Marshall will be their too. He is speaking on Saturday evening in the big tobacco barn.
There will also be lots of new equipment, hay making, modern horse logging and many folks that you will enjoy meeting.
Hey and the best kind of southerner might be a self made one….ain’t really any difference, the good horsemen are about the same everywhere.
Welcome,
