Several folks have called and said they are not getting an answer on the number on the poster for the Southern Draft Animal Days. Sadly there is a reason. Mike and Cammy Fitzgerld’s home burned to the ground last week. Seems it was an electrical problem.
As most of us can only imagine – this is a terrible situation. Cammy and Mike are real nice folks and will make do somehow. They are trying to get the largest cabin at the Banks Farms Campground ready for living in as soon as possible and meanwhile are using their camper at their own facility. We are thankful they are all alright.
Hopefully we can produce some nice lumber during the Restorative Forestry demonstration at the event, for their use in the cabin expansion that they are planning. We have a few details to work out yet, so y’all come on down and enjoy this event with us. The PA for the campground was in their house, so we are working on that equipment need.
Their new number at the campground is: 423-422-7778 for camping reservations.
The vendors are stepping up, so we will have a good amount of modern tillage equipment, cultivators, I & J ground pto carts, hay making, motorized and ground driven. Lot’s of new single horse and team equipment and of course some great functional older equipment. We will be modern animal powered logging on site and have a portable band sawmill operating. We will have several styles of log archs. There will be harness makers, farrier demonstrations, Veterinarian Lectures specific to draft animals and Wendell Berry at 6:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.
You may call the number below if you have any questions about the event.
Thanks,

August 29, 2009 at 2:08 am #53933Gabe AyersKeymasterY’all come on down now, enjoy some time on the banks of the Nolichucky river, right were it comes out of some of the highest mountains in the eastern U.S.
Jimmy “Farmer” Brown from NY State is coming, maybe someone can hitch a ride with him.
