    Hi Everyone!
I’m John, and a native of right here in Northwest Montana, near Kalispell. I grew up on a ranch, feeding and skidding logs with horses. My Dad was a comercial outfitter for about 35 years, packing hunters, fishermen, floater and sight seeing trips in the Bob Marshall Wilderness…I spent the last few of those helping him. Since then, I’ve spent years as a trucker, aircraft mechanic, custom painter, and a few other occupations.
I’ve been married to my beautiful wife Kate for 5 years as of last June 26. She is a born and raised California girl, but has been involved with horses for most of her life and draft horses (Clydesdales mostly) for the past 30+ years, raising, training, showing, and even a stint with Budweiser…but we’d much rather see horses that are working for a living, and people that know how (or at least care to learn how) to work and take care of them. Right now we’ve got 3 Clydes and one big Percheron. The Clydes are used for mostly carriage work, but we’re planning on incorporating them as well as the Perch as much as possible in the ranch operations here by next year. (we’ve got lots of hay to rake for starters…)
At any rate, I’ve been lurking here for a while, and am totally impressed with this site, and the people on it. We’re glad to be here!

    John & Kate, Welcome!!

It is nice to welcome new members from the Rockies!

Sounds as though we have a lot in common, my beginnings were also in the packing and outfitting world.

My best friend mountaineering/skiing buddy, Billy Boyd, lives in Kalispell. He is currently the hospital administrator at the hospital there. We use to tear it up 20+ years ago. I still have trouble imagining him in the serious role he’s in now…

Again, welcome, and we look forward to hearing much more input from you. Your lurking days are over! 🙂

From one ranch kid to another, welcome. Similar background here, but it only took me six years to land back on the ranch and I’m still here trying not to starve and living off the wife.
I too worked as a wrangler/packer/guide for some years. Loved doing it too. It’s good to know someone who will know what I’m talking about when I mention a diamond hitch.
Raking hay is a good and productive job for teams on ranches. I don’t think people realize how much you can get done with a fit team and a side delivery or even a dump rake. They can accomplish enough to make you forget about the tractor.
    Glad to have you here.
