Yesterday we had our first meeting with some of the local politicians.
As you propably know, the political enviroment in scandinavia consists of several political parties, with different political agendas.

We started of with the easy one. The enviromental party. They do have, together with two other parties, majority in our region.

Presenting the advantages of using horses in different forestry eniroments, like close to communities forestry, caring for sensitive forest and lawnmowing in parks and other areas.

They swallowed the bate, hook and sink, and are running hard for this now.:D

Hopefully this will be on the political agenda in the whole region, from all the different parties, within a year from now.

I have been running a campain by sending mail to our local politicans, with hard core arguments, cross referenced to their own political agenda and ideological documents. They will hardly be able to talk their way out of this.
They are using huge amounts of money on “enviromental friendly” cars, but totally ignores the enviromental effects of large machines in the forest. I will be working towords opening their eys of the sad fact that using enviromentaly friendly cars is like pissing in the atlantic, it doesen’t count.

Well, wish me luck with my campain. Hopefully it will result in jobs for alot of horses.

    Geir

Maybe this post should have been under politics, sorry.

If you imply that type of reasoning for promote you agenda, they will turn a deaf eat toward your presentation and efforts of your objective.

You will be waisting you time and hurting any chances for them to hear the good in Animal logging for many in the future.

Mechanical logging does not need to stop. It just needs to be regulated to better standards. Which they are doing in the U.S.A.

Well, the object is not to be disrespectful about their goals or ways to achive them. The point is to promote logging with horses as a substitute to machines in certain areas where machine impact is considered negative.

I’m not using that kind of direct rethoric during the discussions, but as a measure for effect vs. money it can be a very effectfull argument. Opening their eys for the total eviromentaly effect of using horses compared to buying new cars will speak for it’s own.

In my original post you will also se that I haven’t mentioned larger forestry operation, That implies usage of forestry machines. So yes, mechanical forestry operations are necessary in large scale forestry.
