My teams stands well after I tell them whoa. The also tend to stand where I untie them even after I walk away which is sometimes in the middle of their pen or at the tie up rail. I am not happy leaving them to decide on their own when it’s ok to break their stand and be free as I want them to stand until released. I would be interested in what do others do in the way of release training and commands?

After I remove their yoke I iether tie them up or put them back in the pasture.

I release my horses by saying “we’re done” with a slight push off and a pat on the rump.

What I tried today which may be the answer is I put them on a lead rope and unhooked them while walking in the area I wanted to release them in. This let them just continue on their own without having to tax their brains to decide how long to stand after I left the scene having the last command of whoa ringing in the ears.
