Does anyone of you have a good picture of the D-ring connection point on a N.E D-ring H.ness??
I need to see in detail how it is done, the dimensions of the ring, the construction of the straps and the connection of the straps to the ring.
I need this information to be able to combine an old swedish harness with a new d-ring harness. Some pictures with measurements would have been nice. Thanx.

But…..I need a more direct picture of the D-ring and the staps.I’ll keep searching….
October 30, 2009 at 9:45 pm #55056RodParticipantDid you see all the photos? Their is a close up of the “d” ring a little further in on the post.

Thanks alot. That’s exactly what i’m looking for.Good picture.
Another question. Do you like the “bioplastic” stuff, or should I stay with leather harness?.
How does bioplastic feel in your hands?
Here in scandinavia all the harnesses are made of leather, so we dont have any experience with other materials.
Thanks again.
October 31, 2009 at 11:08 am #55057RodParticipantMy reins are a material called Beta and I like the feel of them. Their are different kinds of material used for synthetic harnesses. Mine are made of a cheap biothane materila and are nice from the maintenance stand point, just hose them off, no mildew problems.
I have a breast collar harness for one of my horses made of a synthetic material which I really like, it looks and feel just like leather. I don’t know what the material however other than it’s a Smuckers harness.November 1, 2009 at 2:03 pm #55054Gabe AyersKeymasterWe have used the beta lines for the last couple of sets of loggers lines. Logger lines are made of two different colors, one brown, one black so we know which horse we have in our hands when we pick lines up.
But the problem that always happens with this plastic coated nylon is that the plastic wears off at the point it passes through the line ring on the hame. So we have a piece of of line with just nylon and the plastic dangling and being trimmed back to keep it from hanging and giving an inconsistent signal to the bit.
So we have switched back to different color leather lines. Just because some plastic feels like leather doesn’t make it leather. I personally like the feel of leather in my hands instead of the plastic. There are some that have concerns about the nylon not breaking in an emergency, which the leather will.
We just tend to like leather were we need a memory and nylon where we need strength. Our harness is a combination. It has leather on the backpad and britchen and nylon or bio plastic (oxymoron) where we need strength.
Thanks,

My britchen harness is all nylon and is a “D” ring harness. For my long (and team) lines I use nylon (not plastic coated) with leather on the driving end. So I’ve the feel of leather in my hands but 20′ of nylon ahead of that.

Who did you buy your nylon D-ring from? I’m going to get a set sometime in the future. It could end up being the only set in this region that I know of.
Love nylon harness, hate nylon lines. Too stiff for my liking. Sold on biothane…

JimJim; Do they sell lines made like this, or do you have/make yourself by adding leather to the ends? By nylon, are you referring to lines made of nylon webbing {I’m picturing the webbing used in ratcher-straps??}? If so, does it have any problems w/ sliding through rings, etc.?
November 2, 2009 at 7:40 pm #55063TheloggerswifeParticipantI have a nylon D-ring harness. The light weight works well for me, since I am solo 90% of the time I use the horses. I started with leather harnesses and lines and the harness was too heavy for me to handle. The other big benefit for me is that I pressure wash the nylon harness/bridles to clean it, and hang it to dry. I have beta lines. You can purchase the nylon harness and beta lines at Meaders Supply. http://www.meadersupply.com or 1-800-4HORSES.
November 2, 2009 at 8:32 pm #55061Jim OstergardParticipantScott, I got mine in a private sale and would also recommend Meaders Supply. I should be bringing a mate home for Rusty and will need another set and that is where I will go if I cannot find one locally. For me its become a weight issue at this stage. If I had to go back to leather (and no objection to that) I am going to break it into pieces for ease of hefting. Paul Birdsall wrote a piece in the SFJ (Fall, Vol 31, No.4) about doing it and he has a few years on me. Les Barden describes it in his video I think.
The lines are webbing with leather on the back end. They slide just fine through the hame ring and the rump rings I use to keep the lines up. I got them from an Amish harness maker in Smyrna, Maine a number of years ago.
Great idea about using the pressure wash, I just let them soak in the bath tub much to Linda’s disgust.
jimNovember 2, 2009 at 9:16 pm #55062near horseParticipantBeta lines are the ticket. They have the heft and feel of leather – not so slippery when wet and are strong. No complaints about these lines.
November 2, 2009 at 9:26 pm #55064TheloggerswifeParticipantJim, I have to agree with Linda on this one!!! Soaking the harness in the tub???? YUCK! :p That is just wrong….
November 2, 2009 at 10:04 pm #55068northplowParticipantThank you all for the information.
I guess that when it’s good enough for you guys, it sure will be good enough for me too.
I’ll order a d-ring harness in bioplastic/beta and convert it to scandinavian standard. And ,theloggerswife, wondrefull horses you got there.
