Anyone have any experience with these spreaders? I saw a reference to a 25 bushel Lancaster in an old post. I am considering the 85 bushel.

January 14, 2010 at 10:22 pm #55410dehutchParticipantI’ve seen both the 25 and 85 bu spreaders in use at Ted Russell’s in Sudbury. I don’t have enough experience to evaluate their performance but Ted, who is a dealer and a straight shooter will answer your questions candidly and perhaps could put you in touch with other users. His number is listed in the Equipment Buyer’s Guide thread.
January 14, 2010 at 10:56 pm #55405Livewater FarmParticipantI BOUGHT A NEW 80 BUSHEL LANCASTER SPREADER WITH A MANUAL WET GATE 2YEARS AGO THRU TED RUSSEL BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH IT USE IT DAILY ON OUR 25 COW DAIRY DURING SPREADING SEASON IT IS A SMOOTH RIDE WIDE EVEN SPREAD AND EASY ON THE HORSES EVEN WHEN HEAPED UP WELL WORTH THE MONEY AND WILL LAST ME THE REST OF MY LIFTIME PLUS iI ALSO SPREAD WOOD ASH THAT I BUY BY THE 100TON LOTS ON MY FIELDS IN PCE OF LIME AND IT SPREADS THATWITHOUT ANY PROBLEM

Bill, what did you pay for yours, i know the new Pequea four steel wheelers are around 4k. Maybe we could buy more then one and get a deal fromted?

>VTJanuary 15, 2010 at 1:25 am #55409matt wnyParticipantmy neighbor has a 50 bushel lancaster that you have to hook behind a for cart.seems to be built extreamly well. poly lumber floor and t-bar apron chain should last a long long time.the drive system is very similar to my old mcormic spreader and seems to work well.
January 15, 2010 at 11:19 am #55408Does’ LeapParticipantThanks for the replies. Neal, I will check on prices. I didn’t know Ted was a dealer and I will plan on calling him. I called a fellow in NY who advertises in Country Folks. He quoted me a price of $4k delivered. Seemed pretty reasonable.

January 15, 2010 at 12:59 pm #55406Livewater FarmParticipantNEAL AND GEORGE I bought the 4 wheel hd rubber tired spreader with manual hydrolic wet gate bulls eye coating in bed and aluminum pole delivered by Ted for $4200 2yrs ago I am sure prices have gone up some I feel spreader is well worth the money being used as it is on my dairy I went with the horse drawn model because I feel that it backs better and turns tighter also has a very big and safe front platform with guard rail that you can stand on while driving also has good side steps for getting up and down on one other feature it has is a floating front axle makes for a comfortable ride and easy on the horses on hilly or uneven ground it did freeze up on me before I got the last load spread this winter so sits full waiting for thaw all and all a good buy considering the cost and time for a rebuild on my old #10 also has blenty of greese fittings
