I have just purchased a walking arch from John Plowden in Stow, ME, and it is a superb tool for the single horse in the woods. I have used several other single horse arches, all of which were too heavy and poorly balanced. This tool allows me to easily haul logs which would be a struggle otherwise. I can pull tree-length wood that you would have to cut up without the arch. Also, the arch eliminates the need to spend lots of time clearing slash around logs as the arch rides up and over slash, stumps, rocks, etc. If can reach the log and chain it, you can pull it out. The adapters that John makes fit easily onto my d-ring by simply pulling the bolt, removing the rear tugs, and inserting the adapters. In my mind you will not find a better tools for working in the woods with a single horse!

JohnNovember 23, 2009 at 9:03 pm #55527simon lenihanParticipantsimilar in alot of ways to the bergan and ulvins arch from scandinavia, just wondering if the shafts are articulated.

CarlNovember 23, 2009 at 9:23 pm #55529john plowdenParticipantThe joints between the shafts and wheels and the arch and wheels allow for movement –
JohnNovember 23, 2009 at 9:39 pm #55525Scott GParticipantJohn,
Can you make something to be able to pin/snap into traditional harness? For example, something like the snap attachment shaft loop rigging I have for mine?No D-ring available, just the trace carrier off of the back band/belly band strap.
November 23, 2009 at 10:04 pm #55535CharlyBonifazMemberthanks a bunch!
November 23, 2009 at 10:23 pm #55530john plowdenParticipantScott – I make an entire front/tug/ring assembly that you would replace your traces with -The whole concept eliminates the need for traces and keeps the draft point under the load –
JohnNovember 23, 2009 at 10:44 pm #55526Scott GParticipantJohn, do you have a pic of that?
November 23, 2009 at 11:05 pm #55531john plowdenParticipantJust have’nt loaded it yet –
