Im Brigle from the buckeye (Ohio). Dont know if I am doing this right. Seems like a lot of info. on here if I can figure out how to get to it. Im going to look at a white horse 14 inch sulky plow for my haflingers. Dont know any thing about white horse. Wondering if 450.00 is to much sounds like it is in very good shape. What are the pros and cons to this plow? Looking forward to here from anyone on this plow.

You will need 3 or maybe 4 haflingers to do much ploing with it. We use three 16-1800# horses on a pioneer 14 in decent soil with no big stones. You can change the moldboard to a 12in for a reasonable price. Good Luck
December 27, 2009 at 5:11 pm #56439brigleParticipantThat is good info to have. I was wondering about the horsepower with this plow and my haflingers. Where would I go to talk to someone about changing it to a 12 inch? If I did that would I be alright with two 1200 lbs haflingers? I dont know of any white horse dealers in my area( northwest Ohio). I am very greatful for all the help.
December 27, 2009 at 8:14 pm #56437Simple LivingParticipantWell folks I guess it really makes a difference what your soil type and horses are. I am no expert by any means, but a 12″ bottom with 2 Haflingers here in NW Ohio is not an issue. Brigle, here is a link to the Henry County Draft Horse and Mule Club. http://www.hcdhc.org/Site/Welcome.html . Many folks in the area willing to help you get going, this is a very laid back club that has alot of fun events in the area. Also for any of you ney sayers, here is a link to some of the Club plowing this past spring. And yes they plowed like this most of the day, and these Haflingers are not used daily. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlsgbRmnV6Y I’m not trying to start an argument here, only trying to show that other areas of the country can be worked easyer than others.

p.s.
this is not my video, I would never have put horrible music like that on it! LOLDecember 27, 2009 at 9:24 pm #56440brigleParticipantThanks Simple Living for the web site. I was at the plow days at Ken Davis this fall. Sure was a lot of fun. Looking forward to that again. Your right the people are very helpful and extreamly nice. I joined the club and am looking forward to getting to know them better. We are very busy raising kids so I dont know how many meetings I will make it to. Hopfully I will get to meet and talk to you in person about the horses in the four county area. Thanks again for the help.
December 30, 2009 at 1:07 am #56432PlowboyParticipantI am not a naysayer at all as I have great respect for those little horses. My 86 yr old mentor is still training some Haflinger grades that he has raised. When we used to get together for log skids his stallion and a spotted mare would put some big teams to shame. I was just pointing out that 14in is alot of plow for Haflingers no matter what the soil. Depth of plowing is also a draft factor. Switching to a 12in and turning the furrow wheel to take a smaller bite may work well until they are conditioned. The moldboards are the same as pioneer and available right in Ohio at the factory or at a regional dealer. White horse is in Gap PA and also are decent to deal with and would probably ship UPS.
December 30, 2009 at 10:13 am #56441brigleParticipantThank you Plowboy.I didnt realize that pioneer and white horse parts were interchangable. I can go see Elmer Zehr over in Grabill Indiana he is a pioneer dealer im sure he can help me out. Well thanks again I need to get back to work on the bob sled new years eve is coming soon and I promised my three little ones I would have it back together so we could take a ride to bring the new year in the right way. See y”all later.
December 31, 2009 at 12:36 am #56433PlowboyParticipantPioneer and White Horse are not the same but the standard Radex bottom is interchangeable with the same bolt pattern. If you have a nearby Pioneer dealer that knows plows he should be able to fix you up.
Bachelor we do alot of plowing and it’s not always perfect weather but the picture you paint sounds like punishment!Sounds like you’ve got some tough ground wherever you live. If it’s that miserable give your land back to the Indians and move into some good river bottom land. Just kidding ! SWounds like your horses must be rock hard and well behaved with that kind of steady work! - AuthorPosts
