This is an antique replica of a tip cart. The plan I had was for a horse with shafts (don’t ask me how they drove it because it had not seating provisions) but I modified it with the pole. It is heavy built and I think will require two oxen to pull it when its loaded. I still have to paint or stain it, something I don’t like to do as it covers up the joinery. It will tip up much higher than the photo shows.

This is a design based on an old Scottish cart of a type which was common to the time period and which were usually painted with red wheels and a blue body. I was thinking about black wheels, hardware and lettering with a light transparent stain under polyethylene top coats. What do you think?

That sure is one nice ox cart.:)
I have all the material to build one like it, but I am having a little trouble with my get-up and go.:o
Would it be possible to get a set of plans for that one?

Gee, what a nice cart. You are a craftsman for sure. That is an excellently executed project.

    Hi Howie

The sheet size for the set I have is too big for me to copy but you can get a new set from the web for $26. Here is the address for the plan http://www.wildhorsebooks.com/thompson.htm
It’s half way down the page plan no. JT2a.
This is an excellent plan, well detailed and can be used to build a model or the full sized cart. Let me know after you get it if you want photos of how I adopted it to a pole as the plan is setup for shafts. I made some other changes also to make it easier to construct which you may be interested in also..
