My daughter is mad keen on Aberdeen Angus and after reading the posts and seeing the fotos in the gallery would like to see this art form in action. We are up in Scotland and unless I’m mistaken there are no one doing this up here. Dont even know if Angus is any use for this or not but she would like to have a shot.

I don’t know anyone up there doing it myself, but she’s welcome to come down here (York) and do an ‘ox experience day’ I’m setting up to do over summer – http://www.oxtopia.co.uk (site isn’t totally finished yet, I’m working on it) – My big lad is not AN angus but he is called Angus! I also have an Ayrshire who is an absolute dream, and lots of other calves to mess around with – feeding, haltering etc. I don’t do the traditional yoke thing though, if she’s interested in historical accuracy I’m not your woman! 😀 I ride them and have a few acres to ride/pack/drag things around and have a nice picnic etc. We’re still waiting on our forecart so unfortunately I can’t use real implements yet.
As far as working AAs goes…I’ve never heard of it working. The only person I know who started an AAx had to give up because he got too aggressive – she’s switched to hereford now and is getting much better results. Peraps if you could track down some of the SUPER rare ORIGINAL population Angus’, that would have been used for draught, you may have a chance?
