I have question to those that have used Beta harnesses before. I have recently meet a mennonite man in Ky name Linus Fox he use to work for Amos Smuckers but left when amos was getting out he moved to ky to start his own business as to much comp. in pa. Anyway I was asking him about beta and bio being I have only ever used and trusted good leather he says beta is OK and bio is better. That beta tugs tind to give easily in the hitch slots where bio doesnt. But that beta for some harness points is easy to give also where bio holds better. I was ready to try beta but dont want to wear it out extra fast cause its OK and pretty high priced for just a trial.

Happy with both the bio and his work.
It was very well done.
I still use my leather set for the woods.February 25, 2010 at 9:45 pm #58599jacParticipantHas anyone had anything made with “granit” material ? I was sent a sample and it looks similar to what I believe is “beta”. The “bio” is the shiny material.. isnt it ???.. Reason I ask is I’m getting a set of D ring harnes made for me at Zimmermans and before I send off the measurements I want to be certain I get it made with the right stuff..Becky at Zimmermans sent me a foto of the bio set but my daughter wondered if the shine would show up scuffs too easy ?? any thoughts..

I bought a set of 3/4″ x 20′ logging lines and haven’t used my leather lines since. It is light, flexible material with great feel. I especially appreciate the beta lines in the winter as they are much easier to buckle in the bridle compared with leather lines that tend to get hard and inflexible in the cold. I think I will stick with leather harnesses though.

The only bad thing Linus said was the pressure points gave way faster. Thanks just wanted alittle insite before I put the green down.

I was just looking into the granet material and have found that it is an impregnated material like the Bio just in a matte finish that is less easily marred unlike the shiny patent looking biothane. Granet is also not supposed to be as “tacky” or sticky as Beta. The material is also supposed to be more durable than the beta for a harness as it is much like the hevier Biothane that is now becoming more popular.I am also looking into getting a set of harnesses soon and am considering the granet material for my new set. I have teh shiny bio for my ponies and am not sure if I really like the scuff marks that appear with wear and abuse of a green team. I should note that they were used when I got them though so I have no knowledge of what may have happened to them before I got them here.
