Thinking about adding dolly wheels to my NH 56 side delivery rake. With a Reese receiver so that I can switch back & forth from pole to tractor draw bar. And a seat, foot rest & guard, possibly mounted behind the rake. Upside: better view, safer; downside: more dust. This would eliminate needing to use a forecart. Thoughts?
Anyone have NH dolly wheels they no longer need?
Thanks,
Mark

With you sitting on top of the thing, if you’re sucking in dust, you might want to raise the tines up. You’re raking, not weeding. Having the bars under you instead of behind helps your neck out quite a bit, or I suppose you could just sit sideways on the forecart.

The only reason I really want to keep the IH is it will run backwards so I can ted the hay with it. I really want to use the NH to rake with but the forecart idea seems like it would pack the hay down more making it harder to rake. I’ll be watching for ideas.

It won’t pack your hay down and leave any extra on the ground. My cart has the single seat, I have two but just use one raking so can turn sharp enough and not run into my seats.
Having said all that, I’d like one set up like you guys are describing and might have to do that when I find another bargain on a rake.March 7, 2010 at 12:23 pm #58801mikeandpeteParticipantI wouldn’t be too worried about running over your hay with horses or dolley wheels. My dad and me have been raking hay for 25 yrs with tricycle tractors(Farmall 560D, H, M, ect.) and never had any issues.
