    I am starting to get more serious about getting a team. What I am wondering is how many small square bales of hay should I get to last a year? I want to plan ahead and make sure I get enough so I don’t run short in the spring.

    For my horses (1600 lbs / per), I plan on 1 bale (40 lbs) / horse / day when there is no pasture.

    Marshall, a bale(40lb) a day for 1600lb horse +/-, generally 2.5-3.0% of their body weight per day.
