Here are a few more face net pictures. The face flies were all over us this week so I finally made one of these net for everyone. Made the last hay today. Leo’s first day on a baler or a team of four. He did well. I also got to use my new ground drive PTO cart this week with a 14′ tedder; it was great. I hope to post a couple pictures in a few days!

What kind of ground drive pto cart did you get? I’m jealous already.
I like the face nets, just wish they were made of some nicer material than baling twine… but ingenious Donn, nonetheless… the twine is treated, but you know all that. Some softer cotton stuff could be impregnated with nice natural repellents and you could color coordinate easier…
I killed a big black horse fly on a horse today that looked like it would have made a nice bass fishing lure…huge.

looking forward to your ground drive study. I have been drooling over the IandJ heavy forecart with battery/solar aux hydraulics, but also instead thinking of making a heavy duty walking beam PTO cart out of ground drive fertilizer spreader gear….I would think your #7 would have better power to weight ratios though.

I too would like to see your ground drive cart. How much or how big a machine do you reckon you can run with it?
I’ve been thinking of either a ground drive or a power cart some time. Would like something that could run a 9′ pull swather or there abouts. That and a manure spreader.
Again, like the face nets. Jason, don’t make Donn a slave to fashion:). Twine is fine.August 31, 2010 at 4:52 pm #61907greyParticipantNice prosthetic forelocks!
August 31, 2010 at 11:21 pm #61909LostFarmerParticipantRound these parts we would cease to farm without twine. With twine and time look out Thomas Edison. LOL You ought to see the J-L special twine overchecks in action. Or the LF harness repairs.
I love the idea of a forecart to power a tedder and a small fertilizer spreader. Please share pictures. LF
September 1, 2010 at 12:28 am #61906Donn HewesKeymasterAll my horses and mules voted in favor of these contraptions! (face nets) I imagine a swather wouldn’t be much harder to pull than a rake or tedder? I am not sure how big of a spreader it will handle, I guess I would doubt it would be very big. I am really unsure as to whethers this cart requires three head or not. I know they make two horse PTO carts that pull tedders and rakes no problem, but this 14′ tedder seemed like easy work that took some effort for a couple hills and rough spots and heavy spots in the hay. The horses and mule were fresh when I took them off after an hour and a half, but that is what I want as I will likely turn around and rake or mow more hay. Pictures soon.
