Angus, my simmental ox is now huge and full of energy, he needs real work to do other than dragging random stuff around which is too easy for him, and chasing sheep. I always planned to do forestry but the travel arrangements to my family’s woodland proved too difficult to overcome so I sold all that gear as there’s nothing local like that. The only work for him on our home site is haymaking, our crop growing goes on elsewhere so again we have the travel issues.
Haymaking I’m perfectly happy to do, but what do I get to do it? I had planned on a forecart, for versatility, or as haymaking is our one and only real job, should I just find/have a mower made?
Money is short, I’m going to take on some horsey work (yuck) in order to save for whatever is decided on so I need to get it right!!

I know he will have enough grunt to pull it but most of the mowers and even hay tedders need a bit of forward speed..An option might be a hitch cart with a small engine , this would open up a lot of options. I know an engine seems to defeat the idea of draft animal power but if it lets you use Angus for haymaking then thats got to be good. Traditionaly oxen were the sluggers I suppose, with the horses doing the faster work… just my take on it..
