I really should have posted this a long while ago. This is fantastic event! This is from our state draft club newsletter:
“Happ’s Horsepower Days
February 12 & 13
Entries close February 5thThis is an event near and dear to my heart. The facility is fantastic and the camaraderie is simply unbeatable. Saturday, February 12 is the plowing competition and Sunday the 13th is the log skid and driven obstacle course. Some folks only stay for Saturday’s plowing but a lot of us stay for both days.
The judge this year is Jim Rumgay:
“James Rumgay, owner of Ingleside Farm, Oregon City, Oregon, has been working Belgians and Clydesdales since 1968. He currently owns 5 head of black Clydesdales that are stay at home work horses.
Jim has participated, judged, and promoted plowing matches since 1970.
Lately he has coached members of the Golden State Draft horse and Mule club in the proper use of draft animal power on plows. He believes that a person’s stress level decreases vastly when one must slow to the speed of a team’s walk, pulling a plow. His philosophy is ‘Lets plow!’ ”
