    Hello!

My name is Mylaine and I wrote some posts here to find apprenticeships on draft horses farms and logging.

Since the beggining of my “I-want-to-work-with-horses” journey, 3 years ago, I have dug the internet, looked into magazines and books but rarely found people in Canada who are working with horses, see EARNING A LIVING WITHOUT HAVING PEOPLE WHO PAY FOR WORKSHOPS.

I did call several farmers who now use a tractor instead because of their age or abandonned forestry because of low prices.

It seems for me it is more popular, easier (?) in US and Europe.

Nevertheless, I am now working with lumberjacks and I am learning how to skidd. And their business works. It’s encouraging, in this draft horse desert that Québec looks like.

THIS POST IS TO CREATE LINKS.

With the time, I spoke to a lot of people who would be interested in draft horses but don’t necessarly have it constantly in mind (like I do) and who would do things to get this skill. If it was available, easy to get, they would but, you know how life is…

I want to create something. Some kind of an association.

I want to know IF SOME PEOPLE FROM CANADA and QUÉBEC READ THIS SITE. I would feel less alone 😉

I am planning to cross Canada this summer and fall and visit folks from whom I can learn field and forest works. Maybe I’ll be on your way?

    Horsely yours,

    Mylaine

I live i Rawdon Quebec and I’d like to eventually work at least part time with my horses. I have not decided if that would be in the bush or farming. Wood is pretty much worthless these days around here so starting to log with horses isn’t too interesting. The price of farmland is going up all the time and has hit as much as 6000$ an acre for quality land which makes it very hard to get startred as well. For right now it’s more of a long term plan but the sooner I could make it work the better.
