Meet Albert the almost ox. We are planning on throwing a party when he hits the right age (he’ll get horn brass for that as a present). He is a 3.5 yr old Pineywoods steer, small size combined with the sweatpad/woodenhames combo makes him very very maneuverable in the tight places in the woods. He is as much power as I need around my place. Loves to work, very mischievous if he doesn’t get atleast groundwork every other day, and very smart. I’ve done a lot of clicker with him and my goat team (Push and Pull) and all the dogs (who also pull stuff) and it works well.
The thing he needs more work on is stop. That’s because I’m a slacker and don’t work him enough. Slow and stop. That’s the universal working steer problem though, right?Claire A. and the Golem Kennels Crew

A breeching from a scrapped pony harness I got somewhere. He’s almost ready to move up to the next size, but this has lasted 2 years during a huge growth period, and with a little adjusting, remains comfortable to work him in, without much cost. Doesn’t weight much, doesn’t stick out to the sides like a yoke, comfy and quick to put on and take off.
