Picked up a 2 horse riding cultivator recently that had been modified to be pulled behind a tractor. In the process of getting it ready for this season, and have a couple questions:

    – It’s wheelbase is currently 40 inches. We would like to make this narrower, preferably down to 36″. We’ve removed the wheels, and it seems like on each side of the axle you might be able to ‘slide’ each wheel holder in and out to make the wheelbase narrower, but we can move it. Any Suggestions?

    – Since it was modified to be pulled behind a tractor, we had to do some cutting to remove some parts. Where the tongue would fit, it seems like we may have cut a couple pieces. Does anyone have a picture of how the tongue attaches.

    – There is no evener or tongue. I think I remember the tongue being shorter (?) on these and the evener being unique. Anyone know where I could find an evener?

Here are some pics for reference:

    Anthony,

Here is a photo that may help you, but if I remember correctly you are about an hour south of me, you are welcome to come look, measure, etc. Also if you keep an eye on eBay you can find reprint manuals for the New 4.

    Hope this helps,

This vendor on e-bay has manuals for a lot of older equipment – including HD stuff. If I recall, they do have a McD cultivator manual for ~ $10 Also, you can get a reprint through SFJ (Small Farmer’s Journal) for about the same price.

These guys usually have some parts cultivators laying around and may have what you need, http://www.macknair.com/,

I second Macnairs. They seem to have a lot of stuff for those cultivators. I recently finished fixing up a new 4. It is not all painted up but it is fully funcional. I was even fortunate enough to get a fertilizer attatchment for it. I can’t wait to use it. I am glad to see someone else saving some old iron.
