I’ve tried advanced search, couldn’t seem to find the info I need…
How do you decide the right size of single tree to use? I checked the ones on the different carts that DDD has w/ her donks, but they’re different sizes on the cart & buggy. I thought to get one the same size as her smallest one, but not sure if it’s right – I’ll be using it for farm work/snigging, hers are on carts, etc. Also, hers are attached to the vehicles, so it’s impractical to take them to my donks and “try for size”. Which brings up another thing: my 2 girls are different sizes (about 4 inches height and 150+ lbs. weight). I think they would need different sizes, and the small one is so far smaller than DDD’s boys that “try for size” wouldn’t work for her, anyways. I even tried measuring their widths (widest spot – bellies – or at the hips or shoulders?).
    Suggestions?

    Hi Robert,

Here’s a thread I found. To search, I typed in “singletrees” into “Search” and highlighted “show threads”. I got about 10 threads.

Thanks, Geoff; I already checked that one…it doesn’t discuss how to judge the singletree much. I’ll keep digging. DDD dug one up that I’ve compared to my girls; judging by Jenny-Mae’s girth, I need about 22″, although I’m unsure if I should judge by that or her hip width.

    Robert:

You mentioned above that you measured your two donkeys. That’s what I did when I made my single trees. I would add a couple of inches to their widest spot. My experience is that it is better to go a little big than a little small as rubbing can be an issue with a single tree that is too small, especially when hitched in tight to a pole.

Thanks, George…in that case, the measurement for J-M is bumped up from 22″ to at least 24″…*donkey belly*
