“Makaukau” pronounced Mah-Cow-Cow (Hawaiian for “Ready”) is a Holstein bull calf born in May 2011 in Colorado. He has a white heart on his forehead, a song in his heart, and good conformation. He is very friendly, a quick learner, and does not bite, kick, push or head-butt.
Makaukau was bottle fed and is now weaned. He has been halter trained to lead and tie. He picks up his feet for hoof care, stands for baths, and is not bothered by being touched in ticklish spots even by hordes of little children. He has been trained to numerous voice commands, including “come,” “up” (to pick up his feet), “stand,” “whoa,” and a verbal command to walk. He has begun pulling small loads. He has been “sacked out” and accustomed to various objects and noise makers touching him all over, will walk over and between strange objects such as wooden boards or small gates, and has been bombarded with attention from young children who like to throw things while playing near him, pet him all over, and kiss his nose.
He will grow up to be a very strong ox, and is already big for his age. He is eager to learn and work. Makaukau!
