Hey there,
I’m new to this, being both the site and forums in general, but after browsing around it seems like there’s too much info not to join.
I’m 26 and somewhat green with horses, basically 1 season guiding horseback hunts, but am looking at getting into horse logging and sleigh rides in an attempt to get paid to play with horses. I have 2 experienced horsemen that are helping me out, one of which is in very poor health and the other has pretty limited mobility. I have a very good saddle/pack horse that has skidded a lot of firewood that was always led that is about 1000 lbs but very motivated. I have access to a bunch of calm halflingers that have never been in harness, a 1400lbs belgian/morgan cross that is a little more energetic, but well broke with sleighs and carts, and a big percheron that has supposedly been logging before. Being in the Yukon, the harsh climate makes major commercial logging not viable, but I hope to find smaller contracts for log cabins, low impact thinning, firewood etc.
Without dragging this out any longer, I’m pretty much just looking for as much information as I can get on all aspects and look forward to hearing from you guys.
Cheers,

Welcome to the forum.

The northwest territories has the polar bear shaped plate, ours isnt as fancy but we do have a draft animal on it (husky). Theres a few guys that hay up here but most gets trucked up from bc or alberta.
