I live outside Frederick, MD and I just got my first team. I am so thrilled to have gotten this far in my dream of horse-powering my farm! I got a pair of 13 hand bay ponies that are really sweet. So far, I’ve just ground driven them but I am picking up a forecart in Lancaster this week and have a driving mentor coming this weekend to help me hitch them for the first time as I couldn’t drive them before buying them. I’ve got an 85 acre farm that we just got this year as well. We are mostly still working on basic infrastructure, but have a few goats, pigs, cows, chickens, and turkeys as well as three horses. We’ve been selling some meat and eggs and are ramping that up as fast as we can. Since I also homeschool two small children, we have to be patient on the farm front. I used to do a lot of single driving and I found that transferred from my riding experience a good bit more than team driving does. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it, and these ponies are very experienced which will help. I can tell because they relax completely when I start putting the harnesses on, in addition to their history as it was told to me. Anyway, I’ve been lurking on here for quite a while but I figured that I’d have plenty of questions now that I’ve got my team so it was time to sign up for real. Take care, Leah

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with the farm and the new team. If you can post some pics. Kevin
