Well after looking at my sleigh a couple dozen times in the last few weeks thinking I really should take the skis off and put the wheels back on my laziness finally paid off. I’ve been working on the barn project instead but today my “honey-do” list got ignored in favor of skiing out this morning and sleighing this afternoon. I’ve just gotten in and finished my first cup of cider in the warmth. I, for one, am glad for a bit of winter. I skied out this morning and was able to find a way to link together the trail systems on two 50 acre lots I work by cutting cross a lot we’ve just gotten permission to use. The 2 sections I’ve been working form kind of a “Y” and the lot I now get to cross forms the triangle in the top of the Y. I shouldn’t take much work to make a trail across, and this will save lots of time traveling from the far wall down to the crotch of the Y, and back out in the other section. Not that that particular route is travelled often as I usually stay in one lot or the other for the day, but this lets me make a nice loop around the outer perimeter of about 180 acres of land- a trail that’s been a long term goal of mine for a while.
the afternoon sleigh ride took me out to the very far end of one lot, the top end of an arm of the Y, and then switchbacking up the hill to gain a ridge top that brings me back east past an old camp and then gradually down the ridge back to home. It’s a trail I cut less than two weeks ago and I was wondering how it would go. It goes AWESOME! My boys had no trouble with it, even without much of abase under the new snow.
So a good day on the farm, lots of fun and the payoff for some hard work. I teach for a living and to make money to put into the farm, so these extra times to just enjoy the fruits of my labor are extra sweet. I hope you all had as good a day, and all of you who are currently logging I hope it fills your trails nicely and doesn’t mud up too badly later. I guess it’s not supposed to stick around long, anyway. Good night.
