As part of my work for the Student Conservation Association I just got to take a two day chainsaw course covering precision felling, maintenance, and efficiency. It was a great course and I learned quite a bit even though I’ve been cutting on my own for quite a while. We had some experienced loggers in our group, and even they learned a thing or two.

I thought I’d ask- would folks from DAPnet be interested in joining a course like this if I tried to put one together at Longview? Two days, ALL skill levels welcome, learn to fell trees and maintain the saw. Learn some new tricks too?

Course is GAMe of Logging. Click –> http://www.gameoflogging.com/

Jay, I would be interested. I have done the first part of the GOL, but I could use a refresher and have wanted to do the second part (which is the saw maintenance bit). Just depends on the day….Needs to be a weekend for me and a free one (which is far and few between this summer). Any chance you would run this in the fall?

If this was run in the fall I would be interested too. I would be a real novice. Have used a chain saw to buck up logs, but never to cut anything down.

Glad to hear folks are interested. I think we’d need a minimum of six to run it, which would come out to about $140 each, less if we can fill up the class. 10 is maximum. Looking at my calendar I like either of the last two weekends in November. Is this too late for folks? I’ll have a warm classroom.
