    Hi everyone,

I have been a lurker for a couple of weeks on DAP and just wanted to say hi. I joined because there seems to be a vast amout of knowledge gained through experience here and I hope to learn a few things since I have been primarily a city boy all my life and I think I am certainly behind the curve in learning how to live the simple agricultural life. I will soon be moving my family to PA and will attempt to make my grandmother’s money losing conventional petroleum powered small farm into an profitable organic type draft animal powered family farm. I think I will need all the help I can get.

I thank y’all in advance for all your help.

    James

Welcome to the forum. You will be able to gain much valuable knowledge here from those with experience in what you’re hoping to do. You will also find that very little in the farming life is simple. I wish you the best in your endeavor. Bob

    Welcome James,
Where in PA are you going? We might soon be neighbors

I will be near Pittsburgh. Initially I will be splitting my time between Wexford and Eighty-Four. It looks like I won’t be too far from you.

Yes, pretty close indeed! I imagine the farm is in eighty four? I am curious to hear your plans and look forward to hearing how things go.

i have to respectfully disagree with Bob about the”simple life”i moved from the city and now work our farm with 10 ponies/16acres without a tractor.life is a lot simpler on the farm.take care of your family, take care of your animals, and take care of your land, and they all will take care of you.

Welcome James……. Hooking up with Andy (CountyMouse) will be a great thing.

I had a good friend who used to use the term “Simply Complex” to describe this endeavor.
