No where, I believe, including New England can you travel the roads and find a more interesting and enjoyable topic of conversation to discuss than Nova Scotia.

I have been here 8 days and have seen a still very passionate deeply revered culture and practiced art form. The machine that drove the oxen industry in nova scotia is still here, although operating on a minuscule level.

The reasons are obvious, the nessecity of oxen in daily life, up into a more recent point in time than in America, intertwined and engrained oxen into the lives of nearly every facet of the fabric of Nova Scotia culture, society and history.

Nowhere else can it be found, still so fresh in the minds of so many, the significance of oxens contributions.

Here may be one of the last places where the historical achievements of the oxen are still researchable and some places able to be relived.

There are still many people here who made a living and sustained life from use of oxen, but they are older and sadly within a short time it will metamorphasize into the oxen culture we are familiar with in New England today.

Anyone truly devoted to studying oxen in its many forms, should make the trip!

I think there was 78 pair of oxen at our local fair in Bridgewater Nova Scotia. Which was impresive but I think what was remarkable was how many young teamsters were there with thier oxen. As a horsemen its hard to get young people involved but oxen seem to be doing a fine job recruiting the next generation.

I collected many signatures of the oldest people in the book “In praise of oxen”, including Claude Silver and Leo bolivar, I wanted to find Gordon Lohnes because I have a yoke he made but he was not at any of the events I attended.
The book was a completely noted, names and places, copy that originally belonged to Arthur Young’s mother.

Here, here. Droverone. I for one will try my best to ensure oxen in the traditional sense is still revered and used in all aspects of draft use. I’m glad you ejoyed the time spent with us.
