Anyone have a walk in freezer, we are now up to four chest freezers and I could use one more. Any ideas, Pros/cons?
Thank you

What do you keep in your chest freezers and how long are they full? I’m just guessing that you’re needing that full capacity more on a seasonal basis – so any chances of utilizing some pre-existing facility for those needs?

I do refrigeration work and see a lot of old or odd ball stuff that is hard to get parts for. But if you get a good efficient system that is installed properly it will run trouble free for years. My two cents. Eli

Having all our “eggs” in one basket does concern me we are currently running five chest freezers I am not sure ,from an energy standpoint, if it makes sense to go to a walk in?
Thanks again

All of our freezers are used and we have had some very close calls, luckily no major disasters, because of problems with older equipment. I wish I would have thought more about refrigeration when starting the farm planning process, or at least knew as much about it as I say know about fencing another crucial element. It was good to hear Joel Salatin say one time that they got up to 14 chest freezers before finaly getting a walk in. It is hard to say when the efficiency cut off is.
