I am in process of joining a Continuous Cover Forestry Group in the U.K. They are a members’ association which is open to anyone with an interest in ‘close-to-nature’ forestry methods. With about 200 members, most being professional foresters, but there are also students, woodland owners and some larger corporate groups (e.g. Forestry Commission).
I have met the chairman from the group who can see a potential for horselogging in CCF and has asked me to write a short article for the groups Annual newsletter.. I feel there is huge potential for advocating the use of draft animals in this type of forestry and feel very positive about it. The Group are affiliated to Pro Silva, an European federation of professional foresters who advocate ‘close to nature forestry. Recently New England in the U.S. have joined the federation. No doubt many of you may know this but i thought it may be of some interest to you guys that don’t. Here is the link:-
