    One that runs!!!!!

I have red and black, green, and orange saws. I have a preference for Husky, but most important is finding a saw shop where you can get parts and service that you can count on. New, they are all designed to do the work.

I have several older saws, that I keep around as back-ups, but when I start to get yanked around by an aging saw, I replace it with a new one, no questions asked. You might get started with an used saw, but don’t get distracted by purchase price, the new saw will cut circles around the best deal on an old saw, and you don’t want to be distracted by a failing saw, just cut wood.

I like Stihl better then husky myself but Carl is right one that runs well is the best. It has been several years maybe more then 5 that Stihl started putting the 0 at the end. For instance the 044 became the 440, so those saws are fairly old.

I use Stihls. Ive tried many other brands but Stihl saws last longer and can take the every day workload of cutting two or three tri axle truck loads of timber a day. But Stihl makes two kinds of saws, homeowner saws and pro saws. Im talking about the pro saws.

Wish I had the saw and energy to cut that much wood a day! 🙂

The 051 is a pro saw, but it is OLD. Parts might be a problem. I would like to cut with one just to see what they were like but I wouldn’t want it for a working go to saw. I don’t know about the 011.
If I was looking for a chainsaw for firewood or whatever I’d try to find a 361 Stihl. If your only cutting your own firewood its the last saw you will buy. Even cutting much more than the average homeowner a 361 will last a good long while, then you simply rebuild it. Best saw for the money.

Edited to say I looked up the 011 out of curiosity. Its not a pro saw.

I have using a Jon 2172 for a year or so now, and I really like that saw. I have used Husky and Stihl as well, but like the Jon better. It pulls chips great with a 20″ bar and parts are a bit cheaper than the orange saws. Also, clutch assembly is far easier to work on with not clutch puller and piston stop needed…
