I don’t know if its called a Double neck yoke, or twin neck yoke… in some pics I’ve been looking at kind of like a D ring. The harness I got with my team when I bought them was a nylon one had a martengale on it, this Harness I picked up is leather, has short tugs for logging and off the britchen there are two straps that run up through the pad part that goes over back with the belly strap and then there are two hooks, think its called a side backer or something like that. I didn’t know much about the harness and untill I put it on and took them out i didn’t know those straps were supposed to go on the neck yoke. My question now is I see some pics where the harness where the side backer strap is tight at all times and is on the yoke and there is a strap or chain that runs from the hame rings to the yoke and its just loose and weight isnt put on it at all I assume its only when stopped? I need help with knowing how high or low the yoke should be. I have the style that have a yoke per horse and then go to a neck yoke that mounts to the pole but I’ve seen them where they have just a single piece that the side backer straps mount to and that connects to the pole. If I have enough time I’ll post a few pics of what I’m talking about

    Thanks for the help.

The little yokes are called “baby yokes”(maybe a regional term),they look kinda like a backward evener. They are used with a harness with side backers.Side backer should be adjusted just like the belly backers,so the britchen is just a little loose when the tugs are tight.Belly backers are the ones that go under the belly to the martingale and use just the single yoke. the little chains on the side backers are just to hold everything in place. how far down should they hang? the guy i got the harness has links that are about 4 inches long with a hook on each end that is like a quick snap deal. http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/407354938/Double_End_Spring_Snap.jpg these things. but I cant hook them to the rings on the hames unless they sit in on top of the collar, where you keep the 3 finger spacing for the horse and then it just cuts that spacing down or gets hung up on the collar. thanks for the help.

The best thing would be if someone could post a pic. so you could see it.I don’t have any sidebackers.the chain(or strap) and snap should be somewhere’s around 10″ long,I think.Been a long time since I used one.

You could Google up Samson Harness out of Minnesota.. They have a online page that showes all the harness they sell. You can see a picture of every harness on a horse. You will be able to call it right and see what straps are what. I look at this quite ofton. I,m a fan of the Yankee Britchen harness.
