I need a pitman arm for the McCormic mower I hope to cut hay with this summer. I think my dad used ash but I was about less than 10 when we got our fast hitch mower. I not sure what model it is it is kind of parked in corner so I didn’t get a close look at it. It has steel wheels my neighbor thinks it’s a #7 his uncle bought it new. It also needs anew pole. Hope to pull it out next week weather permitting. I guess I could have just asked if ash will work for a pitman arm? Thanks Eli

These days I get pitman sticks from Norm Macknair – they run about $10 +shipping. In my experience, you cant beat that with a stick (so to speak) – as the length is exactly right and the holes all drilled just right. I would recommend a new bearing on the flywheel end of the pitman stick – norm has those also. Macknair’s # is 717-543-5136 Good luck. Jay

Making a stick is difficult if you have one for a pattern. drilling good square holes is the key. I clamp the pattern on top and drill down through. The new bolts and plates should be all the same size, 5/16″. But it is easy to call and get one!
