Hi there,
I just purchased a ten year old Belgian mare yesterday. I noticed shortly after the dealer pulled away substantial swelling on one side of her face, especially around her lower jaw. The vein running from her eye on that side was extremely dilated as well. It looks like an allergic reaction as the vein running from her eye on her left side is swollen as well. She is chewing fine and doesn’t act as if its painful when I touch her lower jaw. I’m a bit bummed, this being the first horse I’ve purchased.
A friend and I treated her with a strong antihistamine this morning that her vet recommended and the swelling hasn’t gone down. Any advice or ideas would be totally appreciated.
I’ll attach a picture of her eye tomorrow.
