Bean Hill Farm is seeking one additional full time and two additional part time worker. In our 3rd year growing market vegetables, we will be transitioning to horsepower as the main source of traction for the 2014 season. We cultivate about 7 acres in the bio-extensive style, utilizing row crops and significant time spent in cover cropping. Our main markets are the Rochester Public market, the Geneseo market and a small CSA. We also provide veggies to Small World Bakery in Rochester for their sauerkrauts, hot sauces and other spreads and ferments. We also select some of our crops for seed for Fruition Seeds in Naples. As an apprentice at Bean Hill Farm, you can expect a fully integrated farming experience. Our team of heavy Percheron horses serve an important role in the farm. With them we plough, disc, and harrow the garden to prepare the seed bed. They are also integral in managing the cover crops as we mow incorporate these living mulches for future fertility. As an apprentice you can expect to learn the basics of farming with horses, and learn why we farm in this tried and true method of draft animal power.
Apprentices will receive room, board and a small stipend in exchange for:
-full time (5 days a week 8 hours per day. And one Saturday per month)
-part time (20 hours per week negotiable. And help with Saturdays on occasion) .
The work season will run April/may till sept/oct. Incoming and outgoing dates are flexible.Other skills offered are: building and timber frame construction, welding and blacksmithing, butchering and hide tanning, and other aspects of rural and woods living.
Prior experience is not a requirement. The farm is located almost an hour south of the city. Please send letter of interest, resume and references, phone number and a selection of good times for a phone interview.
thanks for reading

I’ll make the same suggestion I made to Bekah– consider adding your post to the Rural Heritage “Good Farming Apprenticeship Network” page. It’s a great list.
