Free Lease on Started Steers

Team of working steers searching for an apprenticeship! A pair of 3.5 yr. old Jersey steers, Zeus and Apollo have been raised as oxen-in-training at The FARM Institute on Martha’s Vineyard since they were a week old. They were born at Butterworks dairy farm in Westfield, Vermont and have grown up with kids in our Whippersnappers summer program that teaches young people ages 10-15 how to care for and work with a team of working steers. Zeus and Apollo have pulled wagons full of folks, shown at the AG Fair, harrowed fields, hauled boats, and strutted their stuff in holiday parades. The FARM Institute is without a teamster/teacher this year and must find some folks who want to board and work the team as they become fully fledged oxen. Ideally, they would return to the Vineyard in a year or so to continue their role in maintaining the heritage of working oxen on Martha’s Vineyard.
